Incoloy 800H Eye Bolts

Incoloy 800H eye bolts per DIN 580 and ASTM B408, UNS N08810
Incoloy 800H eye bolts per DIN 580 + B408

Incoloy 800H eye bolts (DIN 580 / ISO 3266) are forged-eye lifting fasteners machined from ASTM B564 forged blanks and finish-machined for high-temperature lifting and tie-down applications on furnace components, heat-exchanger tube bundles and vessel-internal lifting points. The eye bolt carries a forged circular eye for shackle attachment, a hex collar for wrench-tightening and a threaded shank for installation into a tapped boss. TorqBolt manufactures eye bolts in diameter range M8 to M48 with eye-ID and shank-thread length per DIN 580. The standard configuration follows DIN 580 (collared eye bolt); DIN 582 (collared eye nut) is supplied as a companion item on PO call-out. Every eye bolt ships with EN 10204 type 3.1 mill test certificate documenting heat number, ASTM B564 chemistry, solution-anneal cycle and ASTM grain size 5 verification, plus proof-load test certificate to DIN 580 working load limit (WLL) on PO call-out for lifting-equipment scope.

Manufacturing Route at TorqBolt

Eye bolt manufacture starts from a forged blank to ensure the eye-and-collar transition is forged not machined, then finish-machined for thread and hex-collar tolerance:

  1. Receive Incoloy 800H forged blank to ASTM B564; verify forging cycle and PMI.
  2. Visually inspect forged eye for forging defects, laps and surface inclusions.
  3. CNC turn shank to print OD; face shank-end square.
  4. Mill hex collar per DIN 580 across-flats.
  5. Drill or finish-machine eye ID to DIN 580 tolerance.
  6. Thread roll the shank: class 6g per ISO 965; ring + plug gauge verification.
  7. Solution anneal at 1149 deg C plateau followed by rapid quench; ASTM grain size 5 verified.
  8. Hardness band 120-184 HB; proof-load test to DIN 580 WLL on PO call-out.
  9. Visual + dimensional + PMI inspection 100 percent; heat-stamp grade + WLL marking on the eye.

Inspection and Heat Marking

Eye bolt inspection covers forging-defect detection, proof-load test, eye geometry and thread compliance:

  • Forged eye visual inspection for laps, surface inclusions and forging defects.
  • Eye ID verified per DIN 580 tolerance.
  • Hex collar across-flats verified with go / no-go gauge.
  • Thread engagement verified with class 6g ring + plug gauges.
  • Proof-load test to DIN 580 WLL on PO call-out; certificate logged.
  • Hardness band 120-184 HB on first piece and one per batch.
  • ASTM E112 grain-size etch verification.
  • Heat number + WLL marking stamped on the eye for lifting-equipment traceability.

Typical Service Conditions

Eye bolts are specified as lifting and tie-down points on high-temperature equipment where carbon-steel eye bolts would oxidize at elevated temperature:

Frequently Asked Questions

Q. What is the working load limit for an Incoloy 800H eye bolt?
WLL is per DIN 580 axial-pull schedule. M12 = 340 kg, M24 = 1800 kg, M36 = 4800 kg, M48 = 9500 kg. WLL at angle is reduced per DIN 580 angle-derating chart; do not exceed 45 degrees from axial.

Q. Is the eye forged or machined from bar?
Forged. The eye-and-collar geometry is produced from a ASTM B564 forged blank to retain grain flow continuity around the eye. Machined-from-bar eye bolts are NOT supplied because the bar grain flow is interrupted at the eye transition, reducing lifting capacity.

Q. Is proof-load testing included?
Standard supply includes proof-load test on first piece and one per batch with results logged on the EN 10204 certificate. 100 percent proof-load test is supplied on PO call-out for lifting-equipment scope.

Q. Can eye bolts be supplied to ASME B30.26 lifting standard?
B30.26 is a US lifting-equipment standard that references RFID-marked lifting hardware. TorqBolt machines Incoloy 800H eye bolts to DIN 580 dimensional geometry by default; B30.26-compliant marking is supplied on PO call-out.

Q. What is the maximum service temperature for an eye bolt under load?
Sustained load above 540 deg C requires elevated-temperature WLL derating per the lifting-equipment supplier guidance. Incoloy 800H structural integrity is retained to 815 deg C but lifting WLL must be derated for time-at-temperature service.
